SAINT BARTH / ARRIVAL
St. Barth, one of the most beautiful jewell of Antilles, is the final destination of this first Transat Classic Lagassé Group 2008. Receive this race in the middle of the tourist season (the first will approximately arrive on December the 18th) is a real challenge. The island of St. Barth decided to relieve this challenge, and all the competitors will be received with the honours. What happiness to arrive in the port of Gustavia in the middle of magnificent yachts, which will come here to celebrate the festive season? and what a surprise to see arriving thirty yachts from another generation! |
St. Barth is an island in the smaller Antilles. Located at 200km from the mainland Guadeloupe and at 25km from Saint Martin, Saint Barthelémy is a mountainous island of 25km ², whose the unique parcel is occupied by the airfield runway.
She was discovered by Columbus in 1493 and bears the name of his brother. Because of the aridity of the island, agriculture was never really available.
Thanks to a regulation of the construction and a stricter pricing policy, Saint Barthelemy successfully resists to the mass tourism and become the paradise for the billionaires in the Caribbean. A city, Gustavia, and a dozen of villages, bring together heterogeneous the population of St. Barth, residents of Metropolis, and residents from elsewhere. |
