DOUARNENEZ – DEPARTURE TOWN
On August 16, 2008 the first edition of the transatlantic race for classic sail boats, Transat Classique Lagassé Group, departed from Douarnenez under fantastic sailing conditions. It was no coincidence that the race started from this city charged with maritime history. One week before the departure, thousands of people came to see these beautiful yachts and participate in the festivities surrounding the event.

Douarnenez is a fishing port located in the French department of Finistere in Brittany.
It is situated at the bottom of one of the most beautiful bays in the world for which the town was named. Douarnenez still retains its reputation as a major sardine port, even if the vagaries of the sardine industry has, over time, led to a diversification of the port's activities. There is now a marina that hosts a floating maritime museum as well as many private pleasure crafts.
