DOUARNENEZ – DEPARTURE TOWN

On August the 16^th of 2008 will be given in Douarnenez the departure of the first Transat Classique Lagassé Group. It is not a coincidence that the race starts in this city charged of maritime history.
The animation one week before the departure will be an opportunity to present some of the most beautiful classic yachts in the world. The public will be multiple; thousands of people are awaited to participate at this sailing and elegance celebration.

At the bottom of one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Douarnenez still reputation of a major sardine port, even if the vagaries of sardines, over time, led to a diversification of formerly seasonal fisheries.

Douarnenez is a French department of Finistere in Brittany.

Fishing port flourished until the late of 1970 and the early of 1980, which known a net sharp decline since. The fishing activity is now marginal. It is also a marina.
